Saint Andrew's Cross
Scotland
It is based on the x-shaped cross on which the patron saint of Scotland was crucified

The National Flag (Stainless Banner)
Established May 1, 1863, by the Congress of the Confederate States of America.

The origin of the last name Andrews goes back to the Apostle Andrew ’s bones, which were found and taken to Scotland and buried.  A flag was raised at this gravesite.  When the Scots were driven out of this country, most of them went to the Southeast.  This flag was brought to America and was used as the base of the Confederate flag.  In Scotland there is a St. Andrews University named in honor of Apostle Andrew [i].

He was named an executor in his father’s will.  [It is not known for certain that this William Anders is in fact the William mentioned in the will of Robert Anders dated 12 Jan 1792, Orange Co., NC.]

Revolutionary War Service:

He is listed as providing a patriotic service.

William Anders left a will that was probated 2 Feb 1824.  The will mentions ten children, five of these children lived in Ashe Co., North Carolina at sometime between 1800 and 1859.  Although his will does not identify his wife, it is the belief of some that his wife was Mary Lloyd **.  However it appears that the only connection that he may have had with her was in his capacity as Constable, at which time he presided over the sale by auction of a female slave to her.
