Capt. Rowland/Royland Bunham

Capt. Rowland Burnham , d. will probated 14 Jan 1656[i]; m. Alice Eltonhead [ii], daughter of Richard Eltonhead  of Eltonhead, Lancaster , England .  Alice (Eltonhead) Burnham  m 2nd bef. 1657, VA[iii] to Henry Corgin [iv].

Capt. Rowland Burnham  was a member of the House of Burgesses 1644-45-49 from York Co., VA later moving to that part of Lancaster , which became Middlesex[v].

Legatees –        brother, Thomas Holmes  of York Co., VA and sister Mary Holmes  – mourning rings;Francis Cole  and Margery  his wife;
Mary Burnham  and others
Overseers:        Francis Cole , Thomas Holmes

Capt. Rowland  & Alice (Eltonhead) Burnham  had a son:

·             Col. John Burnham , d. July 1681, unmarried[vii]

Henry  & Alice (Eltonhead)( Burnham ) Corgin  had:

·             Winifred Corgin , m. Col. Leroy Griffith [viii]

Col. John Burnham

Col. John[ix] Burnham, son of Capt. Rowland  & Alice (Eltonhead) Burnham , d. July 1681, unmarried[x].

Col. Leroy Griffith  and Major Lewis Burwell  presented for probate the will of Col. Burnham , which seemed to indicate that they had inherited all the property and were Executors.  The will was questioned by Ralph Wormley .  Griffin m. Winifred Corbin , Burnham ’s half-sister.  Col. Griffin was accused of writing the will, John Burnham was too sick to acknowledge and sign it.  Lancaster Court made order in 1657 in favor of Burnhal Dale , Humphrey  and John Gwynne  and Humphrey Stafford , who represented themselves as nearest kin.  The names Winnifred and Burwell and Lewis continued in the Parham family.
