William Hancock

William Hancock , d. will dated 25 Jun 1828[i], Orange Co, VA; m. 4 May 1775, Orange Co, VA, by banns, to Jemima Brock .  He is of Trinity Parish and she is of St. Thomas 's Parish[ii].  

William Hancock shows up together with Anthony Garton  presenting the surveyor of the road from the brick church to Brocks' bridge on 27 May 1805 in Orange County [iii].  William Hancock mentions the following children in his will, the first five (5) are specifically mentioned as "my five children.

William  & Jemima (Brock) Hancock  had thirteen (13) children:

3.       Mary (Hancock) Garton , d. will dated 10 Apr 1836, recorded 25 Jul 1836; m 1st  Mr. Garton ; m 2nd 24 Jun 1834, Orange Co, VA to Reuben Kennedy .   Frances Garton[vi] .  . . to my granddaughter, Frances Garton, now living with me[vii]  
4.       Sarah "Sally" Hancock , m. 18 May 1801, Orange Co, VA by Robert Jones  to John Bradley[viii].   John  & Sarah (Hancock) Bradley  had at least one (1) son:  Lewis Bradley , appointed executor in his grandfather's will[ix].  
5.       Susanna "Susan" Hancock , m. 31 May 1809, Orange Co, VA by Robert Jones  to Charles Stephenson[x] .  
6.       Rebecca Hancock , m 1st 24 Jun 1809, Orange Co, VA by Robert Jones  to John Beckman /Beekhan[xi] .  In her father's will, " Rebecca Beckham and her children by her first husband, John Beckham , receive an equal portion of my estate with my other four children before named[xii]."   
7.       Nelly Hancock . In her father's will, "Nelly Hancock's children with whome I am not acquainted, I give one hundred and twenty dollars to be equally divided among them having heretofore given my said daughter a negro boy which was to be considered her legacy[xiii]"   
8.       Monroe /Munroe B. Hancock , m. 11 Nov 1818, Orange Co, VA to Sidney Overton[xiv] .   In his father's will, "I give one dollar he having received his part of my estate before his death, but land having fallen in value, I give to his little son, William B. Hancock  Junr , $100, and to his daughter, Jane Elisabeth Hancock , a good bed worth twenty five or thirty dollars."

11.    Nancy /Mary Hancock , m. 23 Feb 1817, Orange Co, VA by Robert Jones  to Francis Weirhaye /Woirhaye[xvi] .   In her father's will, "Mary Weirhaye , having had a negro girl as her legacy, I give one dollar and her children she already has or may hereafter have by her husband, Francis Weirhaye[xvii]."   
12.    Polly Hancock , m. 15 Feb 1798[xviii], Orange Co, VA to Spencer Garton[xix] .  William Hancock  gave his consent to the marriage[xx].  
13.    Elender Hancock , m. 11 Oct 1805, Orange Co, VA by Robert Jones  to James Hancock[xxi] .

Mary Hancock

3.  Mary Hancock , daughter of William  & Jemima (Brock) Hancock , d. will dated 10 Apr 1836, recorded 25 Jul 1836; m 1^st to Mr. Garton ; m 2^nd (as his 2^nd wife) 24 Jun 1834[xxii], Orange Co, VA to Reuben Kennedy .

Reuben Kennedy  had by his 1st wife:

1.2.  Littleton Kennedy , m. 11 Apr 1820[xxiv], Orange Co, VA to Martha Hill

Mary (Hancock) Kennedy  mentions five (5) children in her will[xxv]  [they are most likely children from a first marriage]:

1.7.  Charles S. Gartin  (named Executor), m. 25 Apr 1835, Orange Co, VA to Louisa Kenneday , daughter of Reuben Kenneday[xxxi].   
1.8.  Jemima A. Garton , m. 17 Sept 1831[xxxii], Orange Co, VA to Col. Cole C. Diggs .
