Nathaniel Hix is the ancestor of this branch of the family.  Nathaniel is listed in the Calendar of Tennessee and King’s Mountain Papers of the Draper Collection of Manuscripts.

Nathaniel Hix , b. 1751, Washington Co, VA; d. 1810, Washington Co., VA; m. ca. 1776-1778, Washington County, VA to Jane (Jean) (Scott) Chrisman , daughter of Samuel  & Ann Scott  of Ireland, widow of Isaac Chrisman , son of Jacob  & Magdaline (Hite) Chrisman , [Isaac Chrisman, b. 9 Nov 1736, Frederick Co, VA; d. 19 Jul 1776[i], Rye Cove Fort, Scott or Lee Co. [ii], VA], b. Hardy Co, VA (presently in WV) [iii]; d. 1825[iv], Lee County, VA. 

Revolutionary War Service[v]:

January 9, 1777 IXX 26 (3) - Hix, Nathaniel   Receipt to Captain Joseph Martin  for 18 pounds and 2 shillings for wages[vi].

In 1782, he furnished supplies for the Militia in Powell Valley , and was allowed 1 pound, ten shillings for forage for the use of the Washington County Militia in Powell Valley .  1783 (OBK 1-193) 305 pounds beef for use Washington Militia in Powell Valley . [vii]

In the pay abstract of militia from Washington County , we find.

Aug 1792 Nath’l Hix , Serg’t Serv’d 2 mon 6 days, pd for services by A. Lewis .

1793 Nath. Hicks , Serg’t 8 Sept, thime in 2 mon 6 days, pay per month $7, total pay $15.40.

In 1792, Nathaniel Hick  signed a petition to form Russell County , Virginia .  In 1793, he served as Serg’t in a detachment of Militia in Powell Valley .

Jane (Scott) Chrisman  had six (6) children with her first husband Isaac Chrisman  they are:

2.       Gabriel Chrisman  III[xv], b. 7 Oct 1767, Powell River, Lee Co, VA[xvi]; d. 11 Aug 1852, Jackson Co, MO[xvii]; m. Lee Co, VA[xviii] to Jane Cox /Cocke , daughter of Charles M.  & Miss (Ellender) Cox , b. 7 Apr 1772, Maryland ; d. 1851, Jackson Co, MO[xix]. Possible signer of the petition to form Lee Co, Virginia in 1792.  
3.       John Chrisman[xx] , b. 1758, VA; d. 1776, Rye Cove Fort, Scott Co, VA[xxi]  
4.       Abraham Chrisman , b. 1761, VA[xxii]; d. 1776, Rye Cove Fort, Scott Co, VA[xxiii]  
5.       Isaac Chrisman  Jr.  (III) [xxiv], b. 1765, Hardy Co, West Virginia; d. 3 Nov 1838, Franklin Co, Missouri[xxv]; m. Lee Co, VA to Judah Wallen [xxvi].  Possible signer of the petition to form Lee Co, Virginia in 1792.  
6.       Catherine Chrisman III[xxvii] , b. ca. 1772[xxviii]; m. 23 Feb 1790[xxix] to Fredrick Shell[xxx].

8.       Rebecca Hix , b. 1780, Lee Co, VA; m. prior 1801 to Joel Benham .  
9.       Archibald Hix , b. 1782, Lee Co, VA. Lived in Lee Co., VA.  No further records found.  
10.    James Hix , b. 1784, Wallens Creek, Lee Co, VA.  
11.    John Hix , b. 1786, Lee Co, VA.  
12.    Jean Hix , b. 1788, Wallens Creek, Lee Co, VA.

7.  Frances "Fanny" Hix, daughter of Nathaniel  & Jane "Jean" (Scott) Hix, b. 26 Nov 1778, Washington Co, VA; d. 16 Apr 1861, Lee Co, VA; bur. Apr 1861, Riverview Cemetery, Lee Co, VA; m 1st 1779, Washington Co, VA to Joseph Ely , son of Thomas  & Jane (Smith) Ely , b. 12 Nov 1775, Bedford Co, VA; d. 2 Nov 1827, Lee Co, VA; bur 2 Nov 1827, Bailey Cemetery, Lee Co, VA; m 2nd 5 Jun 1831, Lee Co, VA to John Rupell Russell , son of William  & Eleanor (Cross) Russell , b. 13 Apr 1758, England; d. 3 Aug 1838, Lee Co, VA; bur. Aug 1838.  No Issue by 2nd marriage.
